The History Of Sunglasses
You may be surprised to learn that sunglasses are not always used to protect people's eyes from the sun. The history of solar panels dates back to ancient China and Rome. It has been reported that the Roman emperor Nero enjoyed watching gladiatorial battles using polished treasures. In China, sunglasses were used in the twelfth century or even earlier. Sunglasses were first made of lenses that were flat windows of smoke-filled quartz. These types of mirrors could not correct the detection, or protect against harmful UV rays, but reduce glare. Chinese judges have used quartz smokers to disguise the appearance of their faces when investigating witnesses.
The sunglasses did not have any further changes until about the eighteenth century thanks to the work of James Ayscough. He tried colored lenses with mirrors. Ayscough was firm in the belief that blue or green colored glasses may correct certain vision problems. Ayscough was not interested in protecting the eyes from the sun's rays.
Sunglasses changed into what they are today when Sam Foster introduced them to America in 1929. These mirrors were designed to protect people's eyes from the sun. Foster sold his sunglasses off the coast of Atlantic City, New Jersey. Foster's sunglasses were sold in Woolworth on the street corner.
In 1936, sunglasses were split when Edwin H. Land began using his Polaroid patent filter when making sunglasses. During this time, more and more Americans are buying sunglasses. Famous movie stars and artists also began wearing sunglasses. They began to be not only a way to protect themselves from sunlight, but also a way to be "cool." Sunglasses became a cultural phenomenon, and some people wore them even when it was sunny or in the house.
Today, sunglasses continue to evolve. UV protection has almost become an industry standard, and there are sunglasses available for a variety of sports. There are many tints available in sunglasses, and sunglasses have changed styles over the years. The doctor's prescription glasses are also given tints that appear only when the sun's rays hit the glasses. In 2004, Oakley introduced a type of sunglasses that had a built-in digital audio player. Many blind people now wear sunglasses, and many well-known celebrities can be found wearing sunglasses. Even fictional characters can be seen wearing them. Sunglasses come from as far back as their early Romant and Chineset history!
